Residential Wind turbines

With the rising cost of electrical energy, the expense of investing into residential wind turbines is becoming more and more a viable option. I’ve been closely watching the developments in residential wind turbines for about two years now.

It’s always a good sign when you start to see the ‘starter’ models show up on store shelves in some of the larger box stores. Unfortunately, these models are more to play with then use, but it could provide an entry point for you and me to wind turbine technology.

Also the emerging articles and news sources for building your own residential wind turbines are quite interesting. There is definitely a growing interest in alternative energy sources.

On thing that makes power generated by the wind so interesting is that this is no ‘win-lose’ here. Other energy sources like nuclear and coal power generation is a win-lose situation. To get something we have to give up something. To get electricity, we have nuclear waste. To get electricity, we have pollution.

With wind power, we will always have wind and putting a turbine in it’s way doesn’t influence the wind at all! Truly a win-win situation.

But something to think about is your geographical location. If you are looking to install residential wind turbines, you need to ensure you have a good supply of wind. (No puns here.) So, I’m believing that a combination of energy creation sources may be the ultimate solution. Possibly, solar and wind power generation together could be the key.

It’s also interesting to note that the standard three blade design of conventional residential wind turbines is being challenged by many helix designs. One website that has peaked my interests is www.pacwind.net. This is a company that is designing new and innovative residential wind turbines. I would consider checking them out as part of your research.

That’s my quick look at residential wind turbines. I’m hoping to contribute more information here as I learn more about this emerging technology.
